IDPA coming to HRPC

IDPA is back at HRPC this summer

We'll be running IDPA mtaches again this year at the club.  For those of you who were not around a few years ago when we last shot IDPA, this is an action pistol type of competition that is based on practical defensive pistol use.   Lifted right from the IDPA website:

IDPA as a sport is quite simply the use of practical equipment including full charge service ammunition to solve simulated “real world” self-defense scenarios. Shooters competing in IDPA events are required to use practical handguns and holsters that are truly suitable for self-defense use. No “competition only” equipment is permitted in IDPA matches since the main goal is to test the skill and ability of an individual, not his equipment or gamesmanship.

This discipline is a lot of fun.  The typical match has a moderate overall round count, roughly averaging around 50, with 4 stages.  Use of cover is stressed along with cover garments and everyday gear like pancacke holsters and of the shelf  handguns.  Ranges are short, arms length to 15 yards with the occasional longer shot thrown in as a challenge.  Classes exist for semi-autos and revolvers and each class only competes with itself.  Maximum magazine loading is limited to 10 rounds, leveling the field quite a bit. Scoring is simple with accuracy being stressed over speed...but if you can do both....you'll do really well.

For more detailed info, visit www.ipda.com  for full rules and other great info.

The dates for the matches are:

May 16

June 6

July 18

August 1

Start times will be 9am.  See the club calendar for changes and updates.

More matches will be announced as the summer goes on and we see how the turnout goes.  There is potential for a match a month if the demand is there.  We are planning a non-match practice match in April to let us get up to speed with the details.  A firm date will be posted soon.  If you have any questions or input please contact Geoff, the IDPA program guy this year, at  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Thanks, and we hope to see you there!
